When I last posted a blog we were facing the probability that Margaret’s earthly pilgrimage was soon to be complete. However, the prognostications of her doctors have not proven accurate, and the New Year finds us still together at home and thanking Father for His amazing mercies. Margaret, despite her continuing weakness, maintains a lively interest in people and constantly prays for those she knows to be in trouble and need. The past months have, of course, not been without their stresses and heavy demands on our physical, mental and spiritual resources, but we are both proving that our loving God always has sufficient grace for our needs.
In 2 Corinthians 1:13 Paul makes reference to “The blessings granted us in answer to many prayers.” That too has been our experience and we continually thank God for the love of so many who have faithfully upheld us in their prayers and encouraged us with letters, phone calls, visits or e-mails.
Some weeks ago, when I had been finding things heavy, I received a very simple word from the Lord, which has refreshed me greatly. It was just the first line from an old chorus, “Turn your eyes upon Jesus.” And the exhortation in Hebrews 12:1-2 ,”Let us run with patience the race that is set before us looking unto Jesus the author and the finisher of our faith.” As I have put that “looking” into more constant practice, He has provided fresh stores of love and strength and gently lifted the weight of the burdens I had been carrying. Our own reserves soon run out, but His are inexhaustible and out of those riches He supplies us.
